Workshop discusses European technology, knowledge transfer

Can Tho (VNA) – A workshop was held at Can ThoUniversity on March 25 to discuss the transfer of knowledge and technologiesfrom Europe to Vietnam.

The event was part of the Vietnamese-EuropeanKnowledge and Technology Transfer Education Consortium (VETEC), a projectfunded by the European Union’s Erasmus  programme.

Project coordinator Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Vo ChauNgan said experts from different fields in Vietnamese and European universitiesdiscussed how to successfully transfer knowledge and technologies amidVietnam’s specific conditions. 

They also looked into the building of strategiesand implementation plans to boost future knowledge development and technology transfersin the country, towards helping to promote local and national economicdevelopment, he added.

Prof. Nguyen Thanh Phuong, Vice Rector of CanTho University, noted some of the difficulties in technology transfers inVietnam, acknowledging that universities, academies and provincial departments ofscience and technology have been striving to step up the transfer andapplication of knowledge and technology to create products that better servesociety. However, outcomes have been varied and overall remain unsatisfactory.

The VETEC project – coordinated by Belgium’sVrije Universiteit Brussel – has been carried out since 2017 under thepartnership between the University of Aveiro of Portugal; the DresdenUniversity of Technology of Germany; and the Hanoi University of Science andTechnology, Hue University, and Can Tho University of Vietnam. It is worth over770,000 EUR (nearly 871,400 USD), including over 700,000 EUR funded by the EU.

The project builds training models for officialsand managers to help Vietnamese partners and relevant sides improve theirknowledge and technology transfer capacity and enhance their access tobusinesses to boost transfers and applications. –VNA

♛ Vietnam launches six 4.0 technology training and talent networks

The networks bring together universities, research institutes and domestic and foreign businesses. Members will work closely in training, research, and technology transfer by sharing curricula, improving faculty capacity, providing access to laboratories and research facilities, and jointly implementing science and technology projects.

Vietnam is actively yet cautiously preparing for the construction of its first nuclear power plant in Ninh Thuan (now the south-central coastal province of Khanh Hoa). The resumption of the programme after years of suspension carries considerable significance for the nation’s development in a new era as it strives to gradually reduce and ultimately phase out coal-fired power to realise the Government’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050.

Vietnam has issued many key policies to support semiconductor development, notably the Politburo’s Resolution 57 on science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. Other initiatives include the Semiconductor Industry Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2050, and the Human Resources Development Programme for the Semiconductor Industry.
