Hanoi (VNA) – A workshop on assessing Vietnam’searly warning system for natural disasters took place in Hanoi on April 2.

The event was co-organised by the Vietnam Meteorological andHydrological Administration and the international and intergovernmentalinstitution Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africaand Asia (RIMES).

It was a forum for ministries, sectors, organisations andexperts to discuss Vietnam’s need and capacity in building an early warningsystem, and exchange experiences in meteorological and hydrological servicesamid the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Le Thanh Hai, deputy director of the Vietnamese office, saiddiverse experiences from the workshop will help the country find comprehensiveand suitable solutions to increasing operation quality of its multi-hazardearly warning system.

The solutions cover legal frameworks, institutions andcoordination among sectors and ministries concerning forecasting, warning andcommunications works in response to climate change, he elaborated.

The workshop is part of the World MeteorologicalOrganization’s project on building resilience capacity regarding meteorologicaland hydrological with strong impact via boosting multi-hazard early warningsystems in Southeast Asia and small-island developing states. Regionalbeneficiaries include Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand, andVietnam.-VNA

Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse,ꦡ tre꧒atment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
