The best nine works from 105entries in a contest aiming to fight violence against women and girls werehonoured at a ceremony in Hanoi on October 5.

The contest was jointly held by the Centre for Studiesand Applied Sciences in Gender, Family, Women, and Adolescents (CSAGA), the UN PopulationFund (UNFPA), the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the Embassyof the Netherlands, the Anh Duong (Sunshine) House Shelter, which providessupport for victims of violence against women and children, and the Phu Nu VietNam (Vietnamese Women) newspaper.

Of the 105 entries submitted from August 20 toSeptember 25, 75 were photos or paintings and 24 video clips, which had 38,068shares on social networks like Facebook and TikTok.

Speaking at the ceremony, UNFPA Chief Representativein Vietnam Naomi Kitahara said the contest extended a message that all peoplecan join hands in the fight.

She cited a national study on violence against womenin Vietnam in 2019 as saying that more than 93 percent of women who experiencedphysical or sexual violence at the hands of their husbands have not sought anyhelp.

Therefore, she called for greater efforts in encouragingvictims as well as the community to raise their voice and build a society withzero tolerance for violence against women and girls.

CSAGA Director Nguyen Van Anh said contestants came fromdifferent social strata and different age groups, reflecting public concernover this issue./.
