As part of a World Bank (WB) project to developtransport in the northern delta region, the 300 billion VND (14.3million USD) package includes four contracts to build embankments anddredge the river to protect four sections of the rivers banks, with atotal of 62 km.
The Huyen Minh Construction JointStock Company and a joint venture between the Agricultural and RuralDevelopment & Construction Corporation and the Thanh XuanInfrastructure Construction JSC will jointly implement the work.
The WB project will cost over 200 million USD with 170 million USDcoming from WB loans and the remainder provided by the VietnameseGovernment.
According to Le Huy Thang, the GeneralDirector of the Management Board for northern waterway projects,several major waterways and small ports along the Red River in thenorthern region will be upgraded to reduce transport costs and enhancethe quality of transport services, improve local people’s livingstandards and boost the region’s socio-economic development.
The entire project is scheduled to be completed and in operation by 2014, he added.-VNA
