War-era bombs defused safely in Hung Yen

Two unexploded wartime bombs recently discovered at the banks of the Hong (Red) River running through the northern province of Hung Yen have been safely disabled by disposal experts.

Witha diameter of 30 cm and a length of 80 cm, each weighs more than 100kg. When spotted by farmers in the locality, they still sat unexploded.

According to bomb and mine experts, they are Cluster BombUnits (CBU), which had been dropped by the US air force during thewar in 1972.

Since 2012, dozens of unexploded bombs and mortar shells left over from the war have been discovered in Hung Yen.-VNA
