Vu Cat Tuong wins favourite composer prize

Young composer and singer Vu Cat Tuong has won Favourite Composer at this year's Ho Chi Minh City's Television (HTV) Awards.

TheHTV Awards, launched by HTV and Dong Tay Promotions in 2006, honourperformers who have contributed to the channel's development during theyear in TV, music and theatre.

Tuong, 23, is well-known for hermusic videos. She has done covers and composed original songs, mostlyR&B and alternative rock.

In 2013 she was the Voice ofVietnam runner-up. A year later, she won the Cong Hien (Devotion) Awardfor Promising Artist given by The Thao & Van Hoa (Sports andCulture) newspaper.

Noo Phuoc Thinh and Dong Nhi were named Favourite Male Singer and Favourite Female Singer, respectively.

Lastyear, the 26-year-old Thinh spent 500 million VND (25,000 USD) to make amusic video called Gat Di Nuoc Mat (Drying Tears) about aheartbreaking relationship. Despite being released a few months ago, thevideo is still on the top of the charts.

Nhi, also 26, changedher music style and image from sweet pop songstress to sexy danceperformer wither her music video Bad Boy released in 2014. The songhelped her win over young audiences.

This year, for the first time, HTV gave an award to a model. The winner, Thanh Hang, got 95.18 percent of the public's votes.

"The award is my motivation to keep moving in my career," said Hang, who started working in the fashion industry in 2002.

Cai luong (reform opera) actress Phuong Loan, who has been performingfor more than 20 years, won her second consecutive Favourite Cai LuongArtist award.

Favourite TV Serial Actor and Actress awards respectively went to Luong The Thanh and Ngan Khanh.

Thanhwon audiences over playing a psychologist who face challenges inkeeping his marriage together in Tinh Yeu va Thu Thach (Love andChallenge), while Khanh portrayed a young, pretty girl working as ahousekeeper to discover the truth about her mother's death in QuyenRu.

HTV awards were also given to theatre actors, performance artists and emcees.

The organiser awarded contribution prizes to singers Duc Tuan and Ta Minh Tam, actor Huynh Dong and theatre performer My Uyen.-VNA
