Vitamin A supplements given to under-fives

About 5 million Vietnamese children aged from 6-36 months across thecountry’s 63 provinces and cities will receive free vitamin A pills onJune 1-2.

At a May 21 press conference inHanoi, deputy head of the National Institute of Nutrition under theHealth Ministry, Le Bach Mai, said that vitamin A capsules will also beprovided for 863,000 mothers who have given birth within this month and880,000 children from 37-60 months old in 22 disadvantaged provinces andto.

This is part of activities organised forVietnam Micronutrient Day (June 1), which aims at reducing the high rateof malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies in children in thecountry.

Communication campaigns will also beput forward to strengthen the awareness of the community, especiallymothers, of micronutrient deficiencies by providing them advice onreasonable nutrition, dietary regimes and supplements of vitamin A, ironand iodine, Mai said.

Last year, 25.9 percent of Vietnamese children under five suffered from malnutrition.-VNA

Health sector calls on people to donate blood

During the peak months of July and August 2025, the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) needs at least 90,000 units of blood to supply 180 hospitals in the northern region. However, despite continuous efforts, the reserve blood is still short of 30,000 units.
