Bangkok (VNA) – Two men were killed in a bombing and shooting attack in Thailꦯand’s southern province of Yala’s 💯Bannang Sata district on July 3.

According to local police, a home-made bomb exploded at a bridge when the victims’ motorcycle was passing. After the bomb went off, attackers fired and killed both of them.
The incident is under investigation. It was believed that the attack was the work of insurgents to cause unrest. On the same day, train services in the far south were suspended after two bombs went off, damaging a portion of the main southern railway track connecting Yala and Narathiwat provinces.
No one was injured as no train was passing the area when the bombs detonated. More than 6,500 people have been killed in sporadic violence in Thailand’s southern areas as some armed separatist groups are involved in anti-government activities with the goal of establishing their own Islamic country. Since 2014, the Thai government has pledged to bolster peace talks with separatist groups in the area via the intermediary of Malaysia, but little progress has been made.-VNA
