Vinamilk opens first European-standard dairy farm in Vietnam

Lam Dong (VNA) – The European-standard dairy farm Vinamilk Organic Da Lat was inauguratedin Tu Tra commune, Don Duong district, the central Highlands province of LamDong.
Constructionof the 70-hectare facility began in 2014 with an investment of 200 billion VND(8.7 million USD). In October 2016, it had 500 organic cows and was certified bythe Control Union, a Dutch global network of inspection operations, as thefirst organic dairy farm in Vietnam adhering to the European standard.
ControlUnion representative Richard De Boer said the standard consists of threecriteria – no growth hormone, no antibiotics and no pesticides.
CEO of the Vietnam Dairy Products Company (Vinamilk) Mai KieuLien said the farm reflects efforts for clean and sustainable production andthere will be more like this to be built in the future.
Vinamilk wants Vietnameseconsumers to enjoy high-quality products at reasonable prices, she stated.
Nguyen Xuan Tien,Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, said Lam Dong prioritises thedevelopment of hi-tech agriculture.
Vinamilk now has ten dairyfarms nationwide and plans to raise the number of farms meeting Global Gap andOrganic standards in the years to come.-VNA
