The military-run Viettel Group has officially launched its telecommunication services in Tanzania under the trademark Halotel.

The military-run Viettel Group has officially launched its telecommunication services in Tanzania under the trademark Halotel. Tanzanian Vice President Mohamed Gharib Bilal, Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda, and Minister of Communication, Science and Technology Makame Mbarawa attended the launching ceremony, along with Vietnamese Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son.
According to Viettel General Director Nguyen Manh Hung, the introduction of Halotel in Viettel’s fourth market in Africa, after Mozambique, Cameroon and Burundi, has increased the group’s presence and enhanced its influence in the promising region. With 50 million people, Tanzania is the largest in terms of population among eight overseas markets in which the group is doing business, he said.
With an aim to bring telecommunication services and information technology to all Tanzanian people, Viettel hopes to contribute to the country’s socio-economic development, he added. Last year, the group earned 1.2 billion USD from its business abroad.-VNA
