Vietnam’s women win L’oreal-UNESCO scholarship

Three Vietnamese female scientists have won scholarships worth 100 million VND (5,600 USD) each under the L’oreal-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science programme.
Three Vietnamese female scientists havewon scholarships worth 100 million VND (5,600 USD) each under theL’oreal-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science programme.

The winners are Dr Nghiem Thi Ha Lien from the Institute of Physics,Dr. Le Thi Phuong Quynh from Institute of Natural Products Chemistryand Dr. Dang Thi Phuong Thao from the Ho Chi Minh City University ofNatural Sciences.

Their research projects focus on early detection of breast cancer,climate changes in the Red River Delta, and role of protein UCH-L1 onParkinson disease.

Addressing the awarding ceremony in Hanoi on Oct. 19, Deputy Ministerof Science-Technology Le Dinh Tien stressed that the three annualscholarships in support of potential scientific projects to materialisein Vietnam will be an encouragement for young female scientists as wellas scientific work.

Launched in 1998, the L’oreal-UNESCO Awards honour the contributions of women in science./.

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
