Hanoi (VNA) – Head coach Kim Sang Sik has announced a 30-player preliminary roster for Vietnam's national football team ahead of the 2024 ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup.
The Korean tactician continues to blend experienced veterans with emerging talents as he develops the team's playing style. Several key players are making their return to the national team, including goalkeeper Nguyen Dinh Trieu, defenders Do Duy Manh and Bui Tien Dung, midfielders Nguyen Hai Long and Phan Van Duc, and forward Pham Tuan Hai.
Two newcomers have earned their first national team call-ups, namely midfielder Tran Bao Toan from LPBank Hoang Anh Gia Lai FC and Doan Ngoc Tan from Dong A Thanh Hoa FC. Toan has previous experience with youth national teams while this marks Tan's first involvement at any national team level.
Notable omissions are center-back Que Ngoc Hai due to his fitness concerns and aging midfielder Do Hung Dung.
The squad will gather in Hanoi on November 21 then depart for a training camp in the Republic of Korea from November 21 to December 3. Kim will finalise the list of 26 players before the team’s opening match with Laos on December 9.
