Vietnam’s drama theatre troupe performs in Czech Republic

Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnam DramaTheatre’s troupe performed the comedy play “Benh Si” (Egotism) in Prague,the Czech Republic, on August 18 as part of its Europe tour.

The show was designed to mark the 72nd anniversary of theAugust Revolution and National Day of Vietnam.

The play “Benh Si” by Luu Quang Vu will beperformed for three nights in the Czech Republic. The first night drew nearly500 people. The next two, in Brno and Ostava, are expected to lure similarcrowds. 

The troupe will continue its tour Leipzig andBerlin (Germany)

Directed by People’s Artist Tuan Hai, thecomedy Benh Si is one of the most famous plays written by lateplaywright Luu Quang Vu.

It stars actors Xuan Bac, Phu Don, Viet Thangand actress Ho Lien.

Taking place in a rural village in the north,the play is about a commune chairman and his officers, who are ordinary andgood-natured people. However, they begin to consider themselves ‘noble’, andstart to seek glory.

Ridiculousness occurs happen when the officials’good natures cannot change to adapt to their new lives.

Luu Quang Vu wrote more than 50 plays. Most ofthem criticise the dark side of society, especially focusing on corruption andauthoritarian behaviour.

The play “Benh Si” was Vu’s lastproduction before he died aged 40 in a traffic accident in 1988. It has beenperformed throughout the country and received great acclaim from audiences.-VNA
