Pham Huu Loc, a Vietnamese student at the National University ofSingapore (NUS), and his co-workers have won first prize at the2013 International Tropical Architecture Design Competition inSingapore.
The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) ofSingapore on September 12 announced that Loc’s team, which includes hisschoolfellow Ng Pui Shan (Hong Kong) and Hoang Van Anh (Vietnam) fromAustralia’s University of Melbourne, won the award for its entry"Mushroom Community Campus".
Based on a bionic design conceptof using fresh air, daylight and water features, the campus designutilises natural resources. An innovative earth-air tunnel reduces theenergy required for conditioning the air by using the thermal propertiesof the earth as a heat exchanger.
At the event, TrinhPhuong Quan from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture alsopresented a merit for the project “ Green Campus on the Wetlands”.
Organised by the BCA in conjunction with the Institute ofArchitects and the Green Building Council of Singapore, thecompetition attracted 19 entries from China, India , Indonesia,Singapore and Vietnam.
Professor Tan Tian Chongfrom NUS shared his joys about his students, saying “ Vietnamis very good at architecture, especially projects requiringenvironmental protection.”
In 2009, Loc won firstprize in the International Green Architecture student category inSingapore, and Quan will receive an award on housing architecture inItaly later this month.-VNA
