Vietnamese students triumph regional, int’l Olympiads

This year, all 38 students of seven teams who took part in regional and international Olympiads won medals, including 13 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze medals, according to the Ministry of Education and Training.

Hanoi (VNA) - This year, all 38 students of seven teams who tookpart in regional and international Olympiads won medals, including 13 gold, 14silver and 11 bronze medals, the Ministry of Education andTraining (MoET) said on October 15.

This has been the highest result of Vietnamese students over the years.

At the 19th Asian Physics Olympiad that took place in Hanoi in May, theVietnamese eight-member delegation winning four gold, two silver and two bronzemedals.

All seven Vietnamese students earned high achievements at the Asian InformaticsOlympiad held in Russia, with one gold, four silver and two bronze medals. TheVietnamese team finished third overall, after China and Russia.

At the International Mathematical Olympiad in Romania, all six Vietnamese studentsclaimed medals, including one gold, two silvers and three bronzes.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese five-member delegation brought home two gold, twosilver and one bronze medals at the 49th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO2018) held in Portugal from July 21 to 29 with the participation of 86countries and territories.

All Vietnamese students taking part in the 50th International ChemistryOlympiad (IChO 2018) earned one gold, two silver and one bronze medals.

Vietnam’s four-member team to the 30th International Olympiad in Informatics(IOI 2018) in Japan brought home one gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Withall four students winning medals, the Vietnamese delegation ranked 2nd in theSoutheast Asian region and 12th among the attending countries.

At the International Biology Olympiad in Iran, all four Vietnamese students wonmedals, including three golds and a silver. Especially, Nguyen Phuong Thao fromthe Natural Science High School for Gifted Students under the Hanoi NationalUniversity got a gold medal and very impressively made the highest score out of261 contestants.

In addition to Olympiads, the Vietnamese student delegation to the IntelInternational Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) 2018 held inPennsylvania, the US, won encouraging results, with one third prize and oneconsolation prize.

The Ministry of Education and Training attributed the high result to its activeadjustment of the national examinations for gifted high-school students,thorough preparations for the Olympiads and preferential policies for medalwinners.

A ceremony to honour the students will be held by the ministry on October 19evening in Hanoi.- VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
