Vietnamese steel products certified to meet greenhouse gas inventory standard

Hanoi (VNA) - BSI - the UK's leading international certificationorganisation - has just certified ISO 14064-1:2018 standard on greenhouse gasinventory for steel products of Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel Joint Stock Company.

ISO 14064-1 is an environmental technicalstandard, implemented in accordance with the Government’s Decree 06/2022 onmitigating greenhouse gas emissions. It is used as a basis for calculating abusiness's greenhouse gas emissions. This is also one of the certificationsthat steel manufacturing enterprises need to achieve when exporting to world markets,especially the EU.

Therefore, from June 2023, Hoa Phat DungQuat began contacting consulting units to prepare reports and inventorygreenhouse gases, and provide operational data and related information to servethe greenhouse gas inventory for the 2022-2023 period.

At the end of November 2023, the companycompleted the assessment of greenhouse gas inventory at its complex, fullymeeting the requirements of ISO 14064-1:2018 certification on greenhouse gasinventory.

The company also completed the ISO14067:2018 assessment related to carbon tracing on product lines in lateJanuary 2024. It is expected that in April, BSI will issue this certificate toHoa Phat – the largest steel producer in Southeast Asia.

Under a draft to amend and supplement the Government's Decree 125/2020/ND-CP on administrative sanctions for violations of tax and invoice regulations, the Ministry of Finance has proposed classifying the failure to issue invoices into five different levels. Infraction levels will correspond to fines of 1 million VND to 80 million VND, depending on the nature and number of invoicing violations.
