Australia has completed its risk assessment of Vietnamese pomelo and confirmed that the fruit meets the requirements for importation. This development is opening up major new opportunities for pomelo exports in the near future.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (RoK) Vu Ho joined the RoK’s Minister of Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Startups Oh Young-joo and German Ambassador Wilfried Schmidt in a visit to Kyungdong, a traditional market in downtown Seoul, on September 13.

The first batch of “Dien” pomelos, totalling 16 tonnes as part of an order of 48 tonnes, has been exported from Luong Son district in the northern province of Hoa Binh to the US.

“Dien” pomelos from Yen Thuy district in the northern province of Hoa Binh are now on the shelves of Longdan supermarkets in the UK for the first time and been welcomed by the Vietnamese community and local consumers.

Two tonnes of fresh Vietnamese pomelos, the first batch of its kind, have been exported by air to the US.

After over five years of negotiations, the US Department of Agriculture has officially licensed the import of fresh pomelo from Vietnam.

Vietnam has great potential to increase fruit exports to the US in the future, said Hoang Trung, director of the Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
