Paris (VNA) – More than 30 artworks of Vietnamese painter Mai Trung Thu are showcased at Lyon station in Paris, France.
The station is an important transport hub of the capital city, serving as the main gateway to Macon city and Bourgogne-France-Comte, which is famous for the best wines in France.
The event was held on the sidelines of an ongoing major exhibition on Thu’s works by Ursulines museum in Macon city, which features about 140 paintings and sketches of the Vietnamese painter.
This is the first time a French museum has collected such a large amount of works of one of the leading painters of Vietnam’s modern art. The exhibition will run until the end of October.
Michele Moyne Charlet, an art conservator and director of the museum, said that until September, Macon city is to host dozens of major events promoting Vietnamese culture, including a concert and those that introduce Vietnam’s calligraphy and cuisine.
Mai Trung Thu (1906-1980) was classified as one of the four most renowned Vietnamese artists based in France, as he was one of the first artists who graduated from the first course of the Fine Arts College of Indochina, or Ecole des Beaux-Art de l'Indochine, in Hanoi.
His reputation was closely associated with silk paintings on the subjects of women, children and everyday life, showcasing typical Asian culture in the early 20th century./.
