Tokyo (VNA)🎉 – The Vietnamese Embassy in Japan has hosted a community gathering to mark the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, bringing together overseas Vietnamese in a warm and solemn atmosphere to honour the nation’s history and express pride in the sacrifices of previous generations for independence and freedom.

Speaking at the September 14 event, Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu underlined the sacred significance of National Day and acknowledged the important contributions of overseas Vietnamese to national development. He highlighted that the Vietnamese community in Japan, now nearly 700,000 strong and the second-largest foreign community in the country, has not only integrated well into the host society but also actively maintained its cultural identity, language and traditions.
The ambassador stressed that Vietnamese in Japan are increasingly recognised for their resilience, determination and aspirations. In the context of closer Vietnam–Japan ties, he said the community continues to serve as an important bridge of friendship, helping advance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries in a deeper and more substantive manner.
Nguyen Hong Son, Chairman of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Japan, said the 80-year journey reflected great sacrifice and effort. He noted that Vietnamese in Japan are proud to build a united community contributing to the nation’s reputation, with hopes for a prosperous and strong Vietnam by its centenary in 2045. Associate Professor Le Duc Anh, a lecturer at the University of Tokyo and President of the Vietnamese Intellectuals Association in Japan, said the National Day is a moment for all Vietnamese, wherever they are, to feel connected to their homeland. He added that young intellectuals in Japan hope to contribute to the country’s progress through research, academic exchange and scientific cooperation. Meanwhile, Nguyen Tuan Ngoc, Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Fukui – home to nearly 4,000 Vietnamese – said he was deeply moved by the community’s growing cohesion and development. He noted that the association sought to sustain activities ranging from culture and sport to legal support to help people live, study and work with peace of mind, adding that their greatest wish was to make steady, if modest, contributions to the homeland’s development./.
