Vietnamese embassy verifies reported arrest of fishermen in Malaysia

The Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia is working with local authorised agencies to verify the information that 23 Vietnamese fishermen were allegedly arrested for illegal fishing in Malaysia’s territorial waters.

Kuala Lumpur(VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia is working with local authorisedagencies to verify the information that 23 Vietnamese fishermen were allegedly arrestedfor illegal fishing in Malaysia’s territorial waters.

On May 22, the Malaysian Maritime EnforcementAgency (MMEA) informed about the arrest of the fishermen. According to MMEA,the fishermen, aged between 23-64, had been detained offshore, about 68nautical miles from Kuala Tok Bali of Kelantan state when they were using netson two boats for fishing.

Malaysia’s relevant forces also seized all seafoodworth about 2.5 million MYR (more than 13 billion VND) on the two boats.-VNA
