A total of close to 24,800 USD has been raised within three hours after the Embassy of Vietnam launched a fundraising event in Vientiane on September 15 to support flood-hit people in central and southern Laos.

Vientiane (VNA) – A totalof close to 24,800 USD has been raised within three hours after the Embassy ofVietnam launched a fundraising event in Vientiane on September 15 to supportflood-hit people in central and southern Laos.

Donorsincluded Vietnamese expats and businesses in Laos.

Speaking atthe event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung spoke highly ofdonation from the Vietnamesecommunity to Lao people severely affected by floods in the central and southernregions earlier this month,which demonstrates the brotherhood and sharing between the two peoples.

He said heexpects the Vietnamese community in Laos will keep up the good deed, together supporting the locals recover fromconsequences of the disaster and making Laos more prosperous.

Floods in southernand central Laos in early September killed 14 people and affected lives of morethan 175,000 families in about 1,400 villages across six provinces, accordingto the Lao Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare.

The natural disaster also destroyed around 150,000 hectares of rice and 251 hectares of cropsand damaged many houses, bridges and roads./.

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.
