Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - A special show, scheduled to take place in Hanoinext month, will see four Vietnamese divas perform alongside singer Tung Duong, who is well-known for his not-for-everyone music.

Thanh Lam, Hong Nhung, My Linh, and Ha Tran, dubbed as ’Vietnam’s four divas’,will perform at the live show, entitled Troi va Dat (Heaven andEarth). The show is the first solo concert by Duong since the Mot thap kyhoan ca (A decade of joyful singing) in December 2015 which was to markhis decade-long career since he won the Morning Star - Rendezvous 2004 singingcontest.

“We met each other when we were all taking our first steps in showbiz, so, overthe years, we became good friends. I regard all of them as my older sisters. SoI’m more than happy when my ‘sisters’ agreed to rearrange their schedules to bewith me at the upcoming show,” Duong said about his female friends. “Each diva, with her own style, will bring a different ‘colour’ to the show.”

Explaining the title of the show, the 34-year-old singer said: “Symbolically, the immense and boundless heaven contains undiscovered things, which humans[the artist] longs to discover. Earth is the solid background that every artistneeds to accumulate to be able to conquer new bounds of art.”

As an avant-garde artist in Vietnam, Duong has never tired of trying newthings. He has challenged himself with different fusions of musical styles, which sometimes also defy the audience’s taste. He knows how to amaze hisaudiences whenever he is on stage with his haunting passionate voice and uniqueperforming style.

Ignoring many anti-fan insisting that his music is too weird for the majorityof Vietnamese audience, Duong remains determined to stay on the path he haschosen and enjoys his results, including sold out concerts, popular albums, anda record of eight Devotion Awards – the Vietnamese ‘Grammys’.

Attending the press conference on the show in Hanoi last week, diva My Linhsaid that Duong, only 9 at the time, made a strong impression on her when theyfirst met in 1992.

“When he started singing, his eyes sparkled and his face lit up. He was veryspecial at that moment. And so far, he is still as special as he was backthen,” she said.

Commenting on Duong’s devotion to his work, Linh said: “He is the kind ofperson who always sets new goals to challenge himself. He is really ambitiousand energetic when he tries to reach his goals.”

She also promised that, together with three other divas, she will help the divoput on his “best performance”.

At the upcoming Heaven and Earth performance, some of Duong’s hits suchas Mua bay thap co (Rain over the ancient tower), Giang to (Webspinning), Doc dao (The unique path), and Liti (Tiny)  will be remixed in a futuristic style, which isa blend of experimental sounds inspired by machinery.

“Unlike any of my previous shows, where I performed different genres includingfolk, world music, rock, pop, jazz, and semi-classic, this time, my audienceswill see me in another fresh style,” the singer said.

The Heaven and Earth live show will take place at the FriendshipPalace in Hanoi on September 23 and 24.-VNA

🍬 Indian writer captivated by Vietnam’s Cham culture

Taking a journey to the Cham Museum — the modest building in Phan Rang –Thap Cham, Indian writer Ankita Mahabir said that the museum might not boast size but it brims with pride for the local community, featuring carefully preserved sandstone sculptures, portraits, and rare artifacts.

For years, the Vietnamese community in many countries rarely had the chance to experience Vietnam’s traditional arts and culture actitivies organized by the Vietnam government, except the annual event “Vietnam Day Abroad” that has been organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2010. But the year 2024 marked a turning point.

In the context of international integration and globalisation, culture and art education plays a vital role in promoting the all-round development of Vietnam's young generation.
