Land Saigon's 12-member cycling team will begin its seven-day and1,000km-long journey from HCM City to Bangkok, Thailand on March 6.
Onthe completion of the cycling tour, the group will earn the distinctionof becoming the first Vietnamese tourist group to cycle to Thailand.
Theamateur cyclists will pass through Neak Luong, Phnom Penh, Pursat,Sisophon in Cambodia and then Sa Kaeo, Nakornayok before reachingBangkok.
As planned, the Tourism Authority of Thailand will award the team a certificate once it reaches Bangkok.
"Weplanned this journey five years ago and it is finally realised now. The1,000km route will not be easy to follow and our aim is to race amongstourselves," said Land Sai Gon's founder Vo Huu Thien.
"Thisevent is very meaningful for me because not everyone at the age of 75can cycle 1,000km in seven days," said the team's eldest member Tran TamQuang, who had ranked fourth in the men's track cycling event duringthe 1966 Asian Games in Bangkok.
Quang said he is very eager toparticipate in the journey and to get the chance to return to thecapital of Thailand after 49 years.
In preparation for the event,the team had trained during the Tet holidays so that they are in thebest physical shape for the challenge.-VNA
