Hanoi (VNA) – Senior Party officials ofVietnam and Cuba have agreed that amid the COVID-19 pandemic,regular meetings and exchanges between the two Parties and countries vividlydemonstrate their special friendship.
Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member and permanent memberof the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committeeheld online talks with Roberto Morales Ojeda, Politburo member and permanentmember of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) CentralCommittee on May 26.
At the talks, Thuong informed the Cuban officialabout Vietnam’s achievements in the COVID-19 fight and socio-economicdevelopment, as well as the country’s efforts in implementing the Resolutionadopted at the 13th National Party Congress, especially in Partybuilding and rectification, and the combat against corruption and othernegative phenomena.
He also spoke of the important contents approved at therecent fifth plenum of the CPV Central Committee.
Such achievements reflect the solidarity and high consensuswithin the Party, the entire people and army, helping to raise publicconfidence in the Party’s leadership, Thuong noted.
For his part, Morales Ojeda congratulated Vietnam onthe achievements, and expressed his belief that under the leadership of theCPV, Vietnamese people will successfully achieve targets set at the 13th National Party Congress.
He briefed Thuong on Cuba’s strategies and policies on various aspects,along with priorities in updating its socio-economic development models in thetime ahead.
The Cuban official emphasised the significance ofhigh-level visits by leaders of the two countries in recent years, including the State-levelvisit to Cuba by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in March 2018, the visitto Vietnam by First Secretary of the PCC Central Committee and President ofCuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez in November the same year, and the officialvisit to Cuba by President Nguyen Xuan Phuc last September.

The two sides discussed orientations and measures tofurther implement cooperation agreements in different sphereslike health care, agriculture, fishery, bio-technology and renewable energy, as well as specific projects.
Thuong reaffirmed the consistent policy of theVietnamese Party, State and people that is supporting the just revolutionary cause of Cuba, and noted his belief thatunder the leadership of the PCC, Cuban people will successfully update theirsocio-economic model, opening up a new development period.
The officials also exchanged views on the regionaland international situation, and issues of shared concern./.
The Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) and the Federation of Cuban Women (FCW) have reached a cooperation agreement for 2022-2027, under which they will further boost information sharing, delegation exchanges and coordination at international forums.
A mural painting alluding to Vietnam-Cuba relations was inaugurated in Ho Chi Minh City on May 18 at a ceremony held by the Cuban Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association, municipal Foreign Affairs Office and Union of Friendship Organisations.
A delegation of Vietnam’s Supreme People’s Court led by Deputy Chief Justice Nguyen Van Du paid an official visit to Cuba from May 18-21 to promote cooperation between the two court sectors and attend the 10th International Meeting on Justice and Law.

Regarding PM Chinh’s attendance at the WEF’s meeting in China for the third year in a row and Vietnam’s contributions to the forum, Ma said the Vietnamese leader has shared practical experiences and proposals on green economy aimed at facilitating trade and attracting foreign investment within the framework of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP); and offering fresh ideas for shaping strategies in economics, trade, and sustainable development.
In 2019, the Vietnamese association in PEI was established as a non-governmental organisation to support integration and development within the community. It has since organised a range of activities to maintain cultural identity, foster community cohesion, and strengthen ties with the homeland, while also contributing to the development of the host society.
Vietnam’s participation at the meeting underscores the country’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification, and proactive international integration in a broad, deep, and effective manner. It also conveys Vietnam’s ambition and determination to enter a new era - the era of the nation’s rise.
The amended law will take effect on July 1, 2025, except for provisions on civil servant evaluation in Section 3, Chapter IV, which will be implemented from January 1, 2026.

A key amendment was made to Clause 2, Article 16, which now stipulates that a child born to one parent who is a Vietnamese citizen and the other a foreign national shall be granted Vietnamese nationality, if both parents agree to choose Vietnamese nationality for the child during birth registration with competent Vietnamese authorities

At the WEF meeting in Tianjin, Vietnam continues to affirm its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification and multilateralisation, as well as its proactive and active approach to comprehensive, extensive, and effective international integration
Vietnam always regards the RoK as an important and long-term strategic partner; and hopes that the two sides will work together to further deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a more substantive, effective, and comprehensive manner in the coming time.
Within the framework of the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, people-to-people exchanges and local cooperation have been priorities.
