Vietnamese conservationist honoured by Swiss city

A Vietnamese National Assembly deputy and Director of the Lo Go-Xa Mat National Park in the southern province of Tay Ninh has been awarded by the Swiss city of Bern for his bear protection efforts in Vietnam.

The Mayor of Bern, Alexander Tschaeppaet, presented the award toNguyen Dinh Xuan at a ceremony jointly held by the Swiss Embassy inVietnam and Education for Nature Vietnam (ENV) in Hanoi on April20.

As a member of the NA Committee for Science, Technology and theEnvironment, Xuan has made outstanding contributions to the conservationof wildlife, particularly bears, which are the symbol of Bern .

He has also joined domestic and foreign communications agencies toimplement activities to raise public awareness on the conservation ofbears and other endangered wildlife species.

Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Coordinator of the ENV’s Wildlife ProtectionProgramme, said that wildlife protection work is expected to receivecontinued support from NA deputies, law enforcement agencies andlawmakers, contributing to the protection of bio-diversity and theenvironment in the coming time./.

As a key member of the core group of 18 countries, initiated by Vanuatu, Vietnam engaged in advocating for the UN General Assembly’s Resolution N.77/276, requesting for the ICJ’s advisory opinion. Following the resolution's adoption, Vietnam fully participated in all procedural steps for the first time, from submitting written proposals to presenting directly at the court’s hearings.

ꦛ Hanoi to roll out policies supporting green transport transition

Under the plan, from 2025 to 2026, the city will complete mechanisms and policies to support businesses in switching to green vehicles, expand the electric and green-energy bus network, and build charging stations. The targeted proportion of green buses is set at 10% in 2025 and 20–23% in 2026.
