She made the statement during the ministry’s regular pressconference in Hanoi on March 14 in response to reporters’ queries about theprotection of citizens in association with the recent arrests ofVietnamese nationals in Cambodia and Thailand by local authorities for working in fraudulent gambling establishments. She said according to the Vietnamese Consulate General inSihanoukville, over 100 Vietnamese citizens illegally working at an onlinegambling scam facility were arrested and deported by the Cambodian authoritieson March 9. Following the foreign ministry’s directions, the Consulate General coordinatedwith the Cambodian and domestic authorities to conduct consularprocedures and return the citizens through the Prek Chak - Ha Tien international border gate, sheadded. According to her, the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand also reported that 18 Vietnamese citizens have been apprehendedin Thailand for running gambling scams,directly or indirectly promoting or inviting others to gamble throughelectronic means without proper authorisation. She said the embassy will continue closely monitoring the situation and request therelevant authorities to ensure the legal rights and interests of Vietnamesecitizens. In light of these recurring incidents, she urgedVietnamese citizens to thoroughly study the jobdescriptions, employers, work locations, and the person who referred them, aswell as insurance coverage and benefits, to make the right decision before going abroad to work./.
The Department of Public Security of An Giang province said on August 21 that the case in which 40 Vietnamese had illegally entered the country after an escape from a Cambodian casino shows signs of human trafficking and organisation of illegal migration for others.
