Tay Ninh (VNA) – Leaders of the Cambodian provinces of Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Kampong Cham, and Tboung Khmum on January 15 visited Tay Ninh – the southern Vietnamese province that shares the common border with൩ Cambodia to present gifts and greetings to local leaders as the Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival – Vietnam’s biggest traditional festival, is nearing.

At the meeting, Nguyen Thanh Ngoc, Deputy Secretary of the Tay Ninh Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said the deep-rooted solidarity and good neighbourliness between Vietnam and Cambodia has been nurtured by generations of their leaders and citizens, becoming an invaluable asset for both nations. He noted that despite global and regional challenges impacting economic growth, the two countries have strengthened their comprehensive cooperation in recent years, progressing together in socio-economic development, improving people’s living standards, and enhancing coordination on international platforms. The work has contributed to increase the two countries’ position, while maintaining peace, stability, and cooperation in the region and the world.
Tay Ninh prioritises fostering comprehensive relations with bordering Cambodian localities, Ngoc stated. These efforts have yielded tangible results, including the implementation of bilateral cooperation agreements, increased cross-border trade, and expanded cultural exchanges and diplomatic activities, he added. They have also collaborated to combat crime, smuggling, maintain border security, and build a shared border of peace, cooperation, and friendship. Ngoc expressed his confidence that with collective efforts, the border provinces will achieve further successes in 2025.
Pen Kosal, Governor of Tboung Khmum, representing leaders of the four Cambodian provinces, highlighted the strong bond forged by their shared border and mutual respect for peaceful coexistence. This partnership has expanded cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, healthcare, and education, benefitting both peoples. He expressed his hope that this year will see the border provinces continue to preserve and strengthen their close ties, traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation. In 2024, Tay Ninh reviewed and signed cooperation agreements for 2024–2029 with Svay Rieng and Prey Veng. This year, it plans to finalise and sign new cooperation agreements with Tboung Khmum and Kampong Cham./.
