Vietnamese athletes to take part in 16th SEA Youth Athletics Championship

Hanoi (VNS/VNA) – Vietnam will send athletes to vie for gold medals at the 16th SEA Youth Athletics Championship in Malaysia.

The November 27-December 1 tournment will feature approximately 600 young athletes from 11 Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, with the hosts contributing around a hundred participants.

“The 18 athletes in my delegation have great potential," said Nguyen Duc Nguyen, head of the Vietnam contingent. "We are asking them to give their best at the tournament so that they would achieve as good results as they did during training and strive to win gold medals.

“At this event, our athletes will not only show their abilities but also recognise quality of athletes from other countries. So it will be good for their training plan and future careers.”

Among those faces, Duong Phu Toan and Nguyen Ngoc Khanh Bang who won gold in the boys' 800m event and girls' shot put categories at the recent 13th ASEAN School Games in June in Da Nang.
