Measures to raise public awareness about copyrights violations in association with pirated publications were discussed at a workshop in Hanoi on June 20 held by the Vietnam Education Publishing House and the British Embassy in Vietnam.

Hanoi (VNA) – Measures to raise public awareness aboutcopyrights violations in association with pirated publications were discussedat a workshop in Hanoi on June 20 held by the Vietnam Education PublishingHouse and 𝓀the Br♊itish Embassy in Vietnam.

The event is an activity in the framework of the UK VietnamFund of the embassy. Deputy Director General of the Education Publishing House LeThanh Anh said illegal printing and publishing have been rampant in Vietnam,seriously infringing the rights and legitimate interests of authors andpublishers, and reducing the country’s prestige when joining the BerneConvention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works. British Ambassador to Vietnam Gareth Ward said international,British and Vietnamese publishers are all facing the problem of piratedpublication in the Vietnamese market.   It is necessary to continue raising public awareness about theprotection of copyrights to improve the country’s business environment, he said. Participants at the workshop, who included delegates fromState management agencies in education and publishing, market managementagencies, the police, publishing houses and distributors, agreed that for theeffective prevention of pirated publication, coordination is needed among allrelated sides. Readers should also join in saying no to illegally printed books,they said.-VNA
