Vietnam to compete in SEA Games 29

The Vietnamese sports team is due to compete in 32 out of 38 evens at the 29th SEA Games (SEA Games 29) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in August.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnamese sports team is due tocompete in 32 out of 38 evens at the 29th SEA Games (SEA Games 29) in KualaLumpur, Malaysia in August.

It was unveiled by deputy head of the Vietnam SportsAdministration (VSA) Tran Duc Phan during a press conference in Hanoi on June19 to review the VSA’s performance in the first half and major tasks for theremaining months this year.

Phan said it is hard for the Vietnamese team to achieve thegoal of being in the top 3 at the biggest regional sport event due to strongcompetitors from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines.

In the first half of this year, Vietnam won 335 medals atinternational tournaments, including 136 golds, 104 silvers, 95 bronzes. TheVietnamese women football team won a ticket to enter the final round of the AsianCup 2018 in Jordan while the women volleyball team pocketed a bronze medal forthe first time at the Asia U23 tournament.

In the near future, the sports sector will refine and submitthe draft Law on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law onPhysical Training and Sports to relevant authorities, as well as continuepopularising the campaign “The entire people take physical exercise followingthe example of the great Uncle Ho”.

Apart from making thorough preparations for SEA Games 29 andthe ninth ASEAN Para Games in Malaysia, the Vietnamese sports team will alsocompete in the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan, the third JuniorChampionship in Indonesia, the 10th World Games in Poland, the Asia-Pacific JuniorChampionship in Russia, and regional, continental and world tournaments.-VNA
