Vietnam to break ground on Cat Lai bridge in 2026 to link Long Thanh airport with HCM City
The southern province of Dong Nai plans to start construction of 18-trillion VND (682.5 million USD) Cat Lai bridge that connects Long Thanh International Airport and Ho Chi Minh City next year, according to Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Ho Van Ha.

Dong Nai (VNA) – The southern province of Dong Nai plans to start construction of 18-trillion VND (682.5 million USD) Cat Lai bridge that connects Long Thanh International Airport and Ho Chi Minh City next year, according to Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Ho Van Ha.
At a working session with Construction Corporation No.1 (CC1) on September 9, Ha laid stress on the project’s significance to completing the region’s transport infrastructure network, stating Dong Nai targets putting the bridge into operation in 2028.
The 4.7-kilometre bridge, part of a 11.6-kilometre route, is designed for speeds of up to 80 kilometre per hour, with eight lanes across 33.5-metre-wide deck and a clearance height of over 55 metres. Its starting point will be on Nguyen Thi Dinh street while the ending point will connect with the Ben Luc – Long Thanh expressway.
CC1 proposed developing the bridge under public – private partnership structure, favouring a state-funded build – operate – transfer (BOT) contract or build – transfer (BT) one. Other options are stated-funded BT and land-swap BT.
ܫ In addition to Cat Lai bridge, CC1 also proposed investing nearly 11 trillion VND in 11.7-kilometre Long Hung bridge linking Ho Chi Minh City’s Ring Road 3 in Long Phuoc ward with Dong Nai province’s An Phuoc commune./.
The proposed Dong Nai FTZ will cover more than 8,200 hectares across seven sites connected with Long Thanh International Airport and Phuoc An Port. It will consist of four functional zones, namely a high-tech industrial production area, a logistics hub, a financial and commercial services centre, and an innovation cluster.
Construction began on Component Project 1 covering the Gia Nghia (Lam Dong) – Chon Thanh (Dong Nai) section of the western North–South Expressway. With a total length of 124 km, the section is designed with six lanes and a speed of 120 km/h.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) backed a sweeping plan to transfer all international flights from Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai province.
