Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese shooting team will striveto win medals at the Asian Games (ASIAD) 2018 to be held in Indonesia inAugust, Secretary General of the Vietnam Shooting Federation NguyenThi Nhung has said.

The national team will compete in 14 out of 20 events, Nhungsaid at a ceremony to announce sponsors and key activities of the sport inHanoi on April 2.

At the ceremony, Nhung announced three sponsors, namelyGlostar and Optrontec Vina, who will provide 200,000 USD for the sport in twoyears, and the Sun Medical Centre providing medical services for shootingathletes. They all come from the Republic of Korea.

Director of the General Departmentof Sports and Physical Training Vuong Bich Thang hoped that thefund will help Vietnam’s shooting gain more achievements in the coming time,particularly at the ASIAD 2018.

The amount will be used to fund training activities, hosttournaments, and help outstanding athletes, Thang said.

His agency and the federation have continuously mobilisedresources to support marksmen to fulfill their set targets, Thang added.

Shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh won an Olympic gold medal in 2016.Vinh and his team will be training in the RoK from April 7-20 and compete atthe International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup from April 20 –30, before playing at the ASIAD 2018.

In 2018, the Vietnam Shooting Federation will organisenumerous national shooting competitions to horn athletes’ skills and findtalents for the national team.

More than 200 Vietnamese athletes will compete in 20 of the40 sports at the ASIAD 2018. They aim to bring home from three to five goldmedals in key sports, such as athletics, swimming, weightlifting, shooting andgymnastics.

In the ASIAD Games in Incheon, the Republic of Korea in 2014,Vietnam won one gold, 10 silver and 25 bronze medals to rank 21. The country’sbest result so far has been four golds at the Busan Games in 2002.-VNA
