Two Vietnamese films were selected to be on screen in the A Window on Asian Cinema programme of the 20 th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) taking place in the Republic of Korea, reported Nhan Dan (People) newspaper.

The movies include “Cha, con va…” ( Big Father, Small Father and Other Stories) directed by Phan Dang Di and “Quyen” (Farewell to the Berlin Wall) directed by Nguyen Phan Quang Binh.

“Cha, con va…” tells the story of young people trying to scrape together a living on Ho Chi Minh City’s mean streets and even allowing themselves to be sterilised for cash in their desperation.

Adapted from a novel by Nguyen Van Tho, “Quyen” tells the story of Quyen, a woman from Hanoi, and her husband, who fled from Russia to Germany in search of the promised lands, reflecting the harsh living conditions for Vietnamese expatriates in the 1990s.

At the BIFF, movies by budding filmmakers Do Quoc Trung and Tran Dung Thanh Huy were selected for the 2015 Asian Project Market (APM).

Trung’s project entitled “ Cha Cha Cha” is about old and young people, loneliness and rising which have made Trung obsessive during his youth.

Huy’s named “ Thang Rom” (The Lottery Boy) is the story of a young boy selling lottery tickets to make ends meet in a poor neighbourhood in a big city .

The projects are first motion pictures by Trung and Huy both at age 25.

The 20 th BIFF, one of the largest film festivals in Asia, attracts the participation of 304 movies from 75 countries and territories.

Officially opened on October 1🐻 with the Indian🧔 movie “Zubaan”, the event will run until October 10.-VNA

Indian writer captivated by Vietnam’sౠ Cham culture

Taking a journey to the Cham Museum — the modest building in Phan Rang –Thap Cham, Indian writer Ankita Mahabir said that the museum might not boast size but it brims with pride for the local community, featuring carefully preserved sandstone sculptures, portraits, and rare artifacts.

For years, the Vietnamese community in many countries rarely had the chance to experience Vietnam’s traditional arts and culture actitivies organized by the Vietnam government, except the annual event “Vietnam Day Abroad” that has been organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2010. But the year 2024 marked a turning point.

In the context of international integration and globalisation, culture and art education plays a vital role in promoting the all-round development of Vietnam's young generation.
