Washington D.C. (VNA)ꦿ – Vietnam wants to strengthen multifaceted cooperation with the US State of Virginia, especially in science-technology, education, trade, agriculture and seaports, said Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Pham Quang Vinh.
The Ambassador made the remarks during a recent working session with Governor of the US State of Virginia Terry McAuliffe and the state’s officials in charge of agriculture and trade.
The Vietnamese ambassador also urged collaboration to boost community affairs and support Vietnamese students studying in Virginia.
He briefed his guests on Vietnam’s socioeconomic situation and foreign policies, mentioning the prospects of expanding cooperation between Vietnam and the US in general and with Virginia in particular in the context of the future enactment of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement.
Hailing Vietnam’s potential and the good relationship between the two countries, Governor McAuliffe expressed his hope that the two sides will take advantage of the seaport system in Virginia to turn the state into an important gateway linking the two countries.
McAuliffe pledged to boost cooperation between Vietnam and Virginia in the fields of information-technology, environmental treatment solutions, biology, agriculture, and defence industry.
Earlier on June 28, Ambassador Vinh attended an annual reception held by the International Committee under the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) and delivered a speech with the theme on emerging information technology in Vietnam.
He also met with NVTC President Bobbie Killberg, during which the two sides discussed cooperation plans to support links between IT centres in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with over 1,000 hi-tech companies in Virginia.-VNA
