Vietnam, Russia step up anti-corruption collaboration

Hanoi (VNA) – VietnameseGovernment Inspector General Le Minh Khai received and held talks withAlexander Anikin, Deputy Head of the Anti-Corruption Department of the Russian President, in Hanoi onFebruary 18.

At the reception, Khai said Vietnam-Russia ties aredeveloping strongly with great achievements in all fields. The two nations willmark the 25th anniversary of the signing of a treaty on basic principles for theVietnam-Russia friendship this year and celebrate 70 years of diplomaticrelations in 2020, he said.

Khai said after the Vietnamese GovernmentInspectorate and the Russian anti-corruption department signed a memorandum ofunderstanding (MoU) on cooperation in preventing and combating corruption in 2014,the two sides have exchanged information and experience to deal with challengesin the fight against corruption, ensure the building of a transparent law-governedstate and gradually drive back corruption.

Both sides recognized the importance ofincreasing bilateral collaboration in the coming time, particularly in trainingpersonnel and developing join works between anti-corruption agencies ofVietnamese and Russian localities, he said.

The two sides agreed to start negotiations forthe amendment and upgrade of the MoU, Khai added, expressing his hope that theywill soon sign the revised pact.

Echoing Khai’s view, Anikin believed thatthe above-said cooperation activities will strengthen cooperative ties betweenthe two agencies and deepen the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategicpartnership.

He expected that the two agencieswill boost bilateral cooperation and exchange experience in the fight against corruption.

At the later talks, the two sidesdiscussed issues of common concern, particularly those related to the revisionof their 2014 MoU on cooperation.-VNA
