Vietnam requests Taiwan to stop illegal drills on Truong Sa’s Ba Binh island

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam resolutely opposes to and requests Taiwan (China)to stop live-fire drills in the waters around Ba Binh island of Vietnam’sTruong Sa (Spratly) archipelago and not to repeat the action in the future, spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Le Thi Thu Hang has said.
Responding to the press' question on this issue on June 11, Hang stressedthat Taiwan’s staging of live-fire drills around Ba Binh has seriously infringedupon Vietnam's territorial sovereignty over the archipelago, threatening peace,stability, and navigation security and safety, causing tensions andcomplicating the situation in the East Sea.
She reiterated that Vietnam has sufficient historicalevidence and legal basis to assert its sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) andTruong Sa archipelagos in accordance with international law./.
US President Joe Biden and his counterpart from the Republic of Korea (RoK) reaffirmed support for ASEAN centrality and the ASEAN-led regional architecture in a joint statement issued after their meeting at the White House on May 21.
