Vietnam ranked sixth in the world and second in Asia-Pacific for Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack sources in the fourth quarter of 2018, according to Nexusguard, a leading cloud-based DDoS security solutions provider.

A representative of US-based Nexusguard releasedthe information at a conference in Hanoi on May 3 which focused on how toprotect networks and data from DDoS attacks targeting organisations and businesses.
A DDoS is a cyber-attack in which theperpetrator seeks to make a machine or network resource unavailable to itsintended users by temporarily or indefinitely disrupting services of a hostconnected to the internet.
Incoming traffic flooding the victimoriginates from many different sources, effectively making it impossible tostop the attack simply by blocking a single source.
According to the company, VNPT, Viettel,FPT and Vietnamobile were among the enterprises most attacked by DDoS in theperiod from January 1 to April 15 this year.
Nexusguard data also showed that thecountry ranked fourth globally in terms of IP address spoofing.
Nguyen Huy Dung, deputy head of theAuthority of Information Security said that the conference themed "Protectnetwork and data from DDoS attacks aiming at organizations and businesses"is of significance in the fourth Industrial Revolution.
The event would help increase the awarenessof service providers and State agencies about DDoS attack tendencies, and howto avoid, he added.-VNA
