Manila (VNA) – The Government ofVietnam has attached importance to and implemented numerous concrete measuresto promote gender equality and women empowerment, Foreign Minister Pham BinhMinh said at a seminar in the Philippines on August 6.

The seminar on Investing in WomenInitiative, part of the activities of the 50th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting(AMM 50), was chaired by Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, and attendedby Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and representatives of femaleentrepreneurs from Australia, and other ASEAN nations.

Minh welcomed and highly valued the pioneeringrole of the Government of Australia in promoting gender equality and womenempowerment in the region.

Support for the participation and enhancement ofwomen role at micro-, small- & medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs)is an effective way to give more power to women in socio-economic developmentwhile boosting the sustainable growth and development of MSMEs, contributing tothe development of prosperity of nations, Minh affirmed.

The Investing in Women programme isan initiative of the Australian government, worth 46 millionAUD. It aims to empower women in socio-economic activities in Asian – Pacificnations.

The programme provides financial assistance forMSMEs, develops legal framework, and establish female entrepreneur’s alliance,thus creating a favourable condition, job opportunities, and enhancing the roleand participation of women in socio-economic development.

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
