Vietnam, Peru hold fourth deputy foreign ministerial-level political consultation

Hanoi (VNA) - Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Bui ThanhSon and his Peruvian counterpart Manuel Talavera Espinar convened the fourthdeputy foreign ministerial-level political consultation on October 19, viavideo conference.

Son thanked the Peruvian Foreign Ministry and Foreign Minister for expressingtheir sympathy over the losses from the recent flooding in central Vietnam.

They explained the current situation in each country, their experiencesin COVID-19 control, and measures to boost economic recovery and ensure socialwelfare.

Discussing ways to reinforce all-around ties in the near future, theyexpressed their delight at the strong development of bilateral trade andinvestment ties, with two-way trade exceeding 500 million USD last year, makingPeru Vietnam’s sixth-largest trade partner in Latin America.

Vietnam’s Viettel Group and PetroVietnam and Peru’s AJE andAquaExpedition are carrying out projects in the two countries.

Bilateral economic and trade ties hold substantial potential as Peru is inthe process of ratifying the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement forTrans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

Both sides agreed to continue working closely to maintain developmentmomentum from ties, hold high-level visits when conditions permit, enhance tiesbetween the two legislatures, consider the upgrading of the bilateralpartnership and boosting the diplomatic and consular presence, optimise theVietnam - Peru Inter-Government Committee mechanism on economic issues andtechnical cooperation, expand dialogue and connectivity between ministries,agencies, and businesses, and gradually perfect the legal framework to step upties across trade and investment, agriculture, culture, and tourism.

Regarding regional and global issues of shared concern, they pledged tocontinue offering mutual support at international organisations andmultilateral forums to which the two countries are members, such as the UN, APEC,the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation, and cooperation betweenASEAN and the Pacific Alliance./.
