Hanoi (VNA) - Vi🐬etnam’s nation🌃al futsal team were defeated 7-0 by Russia in the round of 16 at the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Medellin, Colombia, on September 21.
World No.3 Russia dominated the match, scoring four goals in the first half.
In the second half, while Vietnam did create occasional opportunities, Russia secured a routine win with three more goals.
Vietnam’s futsal national team made history by reaching the knockout stage of the FIFA Futsal World Cup in its first appearance at the event in Colombia.
They secured the berth as one of the best third-placed teams after finishing Group C with one win and two losses.
They beat Guatemala 4-2 in the opening match but lost the next two matches against Paraguay and Italy.

Vietnam landed in Bucaramanga on September 17 to prepare for a challenge with powerful Italy in their last round match of Group C in the Colombian Futsal World Cup.

This year’s tournament has gathered over 300 coaches, athletes, and referees from 18 countries and territories, competing in 28 combat weight categories and eight performance categories. Vietnam’s team has 50 athletes, including six from Thai Nguyen province.
It is the first time that the country is to hold a G1-level tournament which is expected to lure more than 100 athletes of 15 countries and regions at Go Vap Gymnasium.

The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.
