Vietnam looks for UPU’s experience, technical support in postal development

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam seeks experiences and technicalsupport from the Universal Postal Union (UPU) to modernise and improve the competivenessof its postal sector—a crucial and essential infrastructure of the country,said Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang at his meeting with UPU DirectorGeneral Masahiko Metoki in Hanoi on November 24.
Appreciating the UPU's innovation efforts to adapt to the digitalage requirements, Quang expressed his confidence that the union will overcomedifficulties and challenges, working together with member countries to step upthe growth of the sector.
For his part, Metoki lauded the Vietnamese Government’s postaldevelopment orientations and Vietnam’s role in its first-time membership of theUPU Postal Operations Council (POC).
The UPU will continue sharing experiences and expertise aswell as offer technical support for Vietnam, he affirmed.
Established in 1874, the UPU, headquartered in Berne,is the second oldest international organisation worldwide. With 192 membercountries, it is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sectorplayers, helping to ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products andservices./.
Vietnam was elected as a member of the Postal Operations Council (POC) of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) for the 2022-2025 term at the 27th UPU Congress which was held in both in-person and online formats in Abidjan, the Ivory Coast, from August 9-27.

Vietnam climbed two places from last year to rank 47th out of 168 countries and territories in the Integrated Index for Postal Development (2IDP) 2021, according to the Universal Postal Union (UPU).
Addressing the meeting, Party General Secretary To Lam expressed his pleasure at meeting a large number of Vietnamese living and working in the RoK, acknowledging and appreciating their efforts in contributing to the growing Vietnam–RoK partnership.
He also welcomed the “Vietnam Private Sector Panorama” as a platform for dialogue, awareness-raising, and inspiring a wealth-creation movement, emphasising that it must deliver tangible results.
During a meeting on August 10 in Seoul with 100 representatives from the RoK’s intellectuals, associations, people’s organisations, businesses, and non-governmental organisations operating in Vietnam, Party General Secretary To Lam expressed his gratitude to Korean friendship, economic, cultural associations, universities, research institutes, individuals, and NGOs for their significant contributions to nurturing the Vietnam–RoK relationship.
