Vietnam, Laos trade unions forge ties

Officials of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) and the Lao Trade Union Central Committee held talks on March 12 in Hanoi with the aim of moving bilateral long-standing cooperation forward.

VGCL Vice President Tran Thanh Hai introduced to his Lao counterpartSymoune Ounlasy and his entourages the VGCL’s major activities inexpanding the network of trade unions and union members at grassrootslevel.

He also shared Vietnam’s experience regardingenhancing trade unions’ role in building harmonious labour relations andmonitoring the implementation of collective working contracts inbusinesses.

The Lao guest said the Lao trade unionis facing many difficulties in developing trade unions in businesses,especially foreign invested ones.

He said his visitaims to study Vietnam’s experience in this field in the context thatLao wants to amend the Law on Trade Union.

According to Symoune Ounlasy, the Lao Trade Union currently has nearly 200,000 members.-VNA

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
