Vietnam, Laos hope for strengthened judicial bond

Hanoi (VNA)🧸 - Leaders of ministries of justice of Vietnam and Laos have agreed to bolster legal and judicial links in the coming time, thus deepening the traditional friendship between the two nations.

The agreement was reached during the talks between Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong and his Lao counterpart Bounkeut Sangsomsak in Vientiane on December 24, as part of the former’s visit to Laos from December 24-29. The two sides reviewed the implementation of cooperation agreements in 2015 between the two ministries, concurring that their connection become stronger and more practical during the year.
They agreed to strengthen their affiliation in the coming time through maintaining the exchange of delegations, sharing experience in law-making, legal education-training. Legal and judicial links within ASEAN will be boosted, including the implementation of initiatives ratified in the Meeting of ASEAN Justice Ministers. The two ministries will work closely to quicken the implementation of an agreement between the two Governments on migration and unlicensed marriage in border areas, and the conclusion of the judicial conference border provinces of Vietnam and Laos. Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong expressed pleasure about the increasingly strengthened all-around ties between the two nations, and hoped for the relations’ further development in the coming time.
He said he believes that with its revisions, Laos’ 2015 Constitution will be a foundation for the country to implement its reform policies and development. Congratulating Laos on its post as the Chair of ASEAN in 2016, Cuong stressed that Vietnam will do its best to support Laos in fulfilling its role. For his part, Bounkeut Sangsomsak said Laos hopes to learn Vietnam’s experience in making law, managing law firms and issues related to nationality and registration. He desired that connections between the two ministries will be stronger in 2016, contributing to the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.
