Vietnam, Japan cooperate to prevent environmental pollution

Hanoi (VNA) – Experience in preventingand controlling environmental pollution was shared among Vietnamese andJapanese experts at an international workshop in Hanoi on January 11.

The event was jointly held by the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources andEnvironment and Japanese Ministry ofthe Environment within the framework of the first Vietnam-Japan EnvironmentWeek taking place from January 9-11.

According to Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Vo Tuan Nhan,Vietnam is facing severe environmental pollution as a result of its strongeconomic growth in the past few years.

Laying stress on Vietnam’s priority to prevent and manage pollution inits environmental protection strategy, Nhan expressed his hope that theworkshop will serve as a bridge to connect Vietnamese and Japanese firms to setup a cooperation plan in the field.

Japanese Vice Minister of theEnvironment Takaaki Katsumata said Japan had to battle similar issues toVietnam when its economy attained rapid growth in the 1960s. The Government thencarried out various measures and developed advanced models to superviseenvironmental quality.

With considerable experience and success, Japan will share experience inbuilding mechanisms and branching out technologies towards sustainableenvironment protection, he underlined. –VNA

👍 Vietnam contributes to international court's advisory opinion on climate change

As a key member of the core group of 18 countries, initiated by Vanuatu, Vietnam engaged in advocating for the UN General Assembly’s Resolution N.77/276, requesting for the ICJ’s advisory opinion. Following the resolution's adoption, Vietnam fully participated in all procedural steps for the first time, from submitting written proposals to presenting directly at the court’s hearings.

🐈 Hanoi to roll out policies supporting green transport transition

Under the plan, from 2025 to 2026, the city will complete mechanisms and policies to support businesses in switching to green vehicles, expand the electric and green-energy bus network, and build charging stations. The targeted proportion of green buses is set at 10% in 2025 and 20–23% in 2026.
