Vietnam has full legal basis and ample historical evidence to affirm its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said on January 20 in response to reporters’ query on Vietnam's position concerning China's invasion of the Hoang Sa Islands in 1974.

Hanoi (VNA) – As has been clearly enunciated many times, Vietnam has full legal basis and ample historical evidence to assert its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and the Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham ThuHang said on January 20 in response to reporters’ query on Vietnam's position concerning China's invasion of the Hoang Sa Islands in 1974.
Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa Islands has been establishedsince at least the 17th century in accordance with international law, and exercised in a peaceful, continuous, and public manner by successive Vietnamesestates, Hang stressed.
Every act of threatening or using force ininternational relations, especially the use of force to resolve territorial disputes between states, is in complete contravention of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter, and in serious violation of internationallaw. Such an act neither establishes any territorial title of sovereignty, nor changes the truth that sovereignty over the Hoang Sa Islands belongs to Vietnam, the spokesperson affirmed./.
Vietnam strongly reiterates its consistent stance on the sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spartly), and resolutely rejects any maritime claims of China that are based on the "dotted line" in the East Sea, spokeswoman of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang affirmed on August 31.
A digital exhibition titled “Vietnam’s Hoang Sa, Truong Sa – Historical and Legal Evidence” opened in Ham Thuan Nam district, the south-central province of Binh Thuan on November 4.
The People’s Committee of Hoang Sa district, the central city of Da Nang, on January 11 visited and presented gifts to witnesses who have had a hand in the development on Hoang Sa (Paracels).
Hoang Sa (Paracels) and Truong Sa (Spratlys), like integral pieces of Vietnamese blood and flesh, form part of the country’s territory, which is an immutable truth cherished by the Vietnamese people for generations. Fifty years have passed since January 19, 1974, when Hoang Sa was illegally occupied by China, this archipelago remains a persistent concern of the Vietnamese people.
The visits reflected the elevated position of Vietnam’s foreign policy in the new era—aimed at not only advancing ties with key regional partners like Egypt and Angola but also delivering a strategic message about Vietnam’s commitment to deepening relations with African nations as a whole.
At their talks and meetings, President Cuong and Angola’s top leaders affirmed that the close brotherhood and traditional friendship are a valuable shared asset and a solid foundation for the two nations to advance into a new phase of development.
The ruling People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) attaches great importance to the friendship, solidarity, and comradeship with the Communist Party of Vietnam, and voiced her Party’s wish to further deepen and expand relations between the two sides for the benefit of the Vietnamese and Angolan people.
Vietnam pledges to do its utmost to build an ASEAN of solidarity, consensus, and unity in diversity, and to foster a fast and sustainable development path for ASEAN, grounded in science, technology, and innovation, said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
