Vietnam-Finland Innovation Programme enters second phase

The Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) and the Finnish Embassy in Vietnam jointly held a ceremony in Hanoi on December 12 to launch the second phase of the Vietnam-Finland Innovation Programme.

Speaking at the event, MoST Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Khanh said thatthe second phase will be implemented until February 2018 at a totalinvestment of 11 million EUR, 90 percent of which come from officialdevelopment assistance of the Finnish Government.

The programme works closely with leading national and internationalpartners to seek appropriate solutions to improving the innovativesystem in Vietnam, with the purpose of boosting the country’ssustainable economic growth through increased production and export ofinnovative products and services.

According tothe programme’s director Tran Quoc Thang, in addition to supportingbusinesses in terms of innovation in four major cities of Hanoi, DaNang, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho, the second phase will also focus onintensifying innovation training in line with international standards inthe country.

The first phase of the programmewas carried out from 2009-2013. It helped Vietnam better its legalframework to encourage innovation, and provided support for businessesin this field.-VNA

The PM revealed Vietnam’s plan to develop nuclear power in the near future, and called on the Swedish side to assist Vietnam in developing and refining legal and policy frameworks for the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes; training and developing human resources; ensuring nuclear safety; and conducting training and drills to improve incident management capabilities.
