Hanoi (VNA) – TheCentral Committee of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union (VFU) re-elected Thao Xuan Sungas Chairman of the union for the 2018-2023 tenure at its first meeting onDecember 12.

The VFU Central Committee with119 members were elected at the VFU’s 7th National Congress earlierthe same day.

At a press conference held afterthe congress concluded in Hanoi on December 13, VFU Chairman Thao Xuan Sungsaid the congress had adopted several important documents, including thepolitical report of the VFU’s 6th Central Committee, the union’s revisedCharter and the report on the performance of the VFU’s 6th CentralCommittee.

The congress had approved with100 percent of votes 14 targets for the next tenure, along with five missionsand solutions, including strengthening the union and the farmer class andpromoting agricultural development, the building of new rural areas andsustainable poverty reduction. The union will also join efforts to build astrong Communist Party of Vietnam, administration and the national unity blocwhile carrying out national defence-security tasks and expanding internationalcooperation.

The VFU’s 7th National Congressopened in Hanoi on December 12 with General Secretary of the Communist Party ofVietnam and President Nguyen Phu Trong attending and delivering a speech.

The event drew 999 delegatesrepresenting more than 10 million farmers nationwide.-VNA

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
