Vietnam exports first batch of fresh pork to foreign market
Mavin Group has become the first business in Vietnam to officially export fresh pork to a foreign market when the first batch was shipped to Myanmar, a success of not only the company but also the country’s animal farming sector.

Hanoi (VNA) – Mavin Group has become the firstbusiness in Vietnam to officially export fresh pork to a foreign market whenthe first batch was shipped to Myanmar, a success of not only the company butalso the country’s animal farming sector.
Mavin Group, a joint venture of Australia andVietnam, and Japanese-invested Sojitz Vietnam held a ceremony on June 25 toannounce the export success and sign a cooperation agreement.
The pork shipment in late May, made incoordination with Sojitz Vietnam, is considered a success of the animal farmingsector because this is the first time a company in Vietnam has satisfiedanother country’s technical and quality requirements to export pork. It is animportant channel to bring agricultural products, especially animal products,of Vietnam to global markets.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment Vu Van Tam said the production capacity of the livestock farmingsector has exceeded domestic demand, which even led to some overproductioncrises in the past. Facing this fact, the ministry has proposed the Governmentissue policies encouraging major enterprises to invest in agriculture,including animal husbandry.
Vietnam exported the first batch of chicken toJapan in 2017, and Japan has permitted the Vietnamese chicken exporter toexpand production and shipment to this market.
Vietnam has also been exporting suckling pigproducts to Hong Kong (China), Malaysia and some other markets. However, thisis the first time frozen/fresh pork of Vietnam has been shipped abroad, Tamnoted.
Chairman of the Mavin Group David John Whiteheadsaid in the time ahead, the company plans to export at least one 40-footcontainer of fresh pork, equivalent to 26 tonnes, to Myanmar each month. It isalso negotiating for shipping processed meat products like ham, sausage andsmoked meat into this market.
At the ceremony, Mavin and Sojitz Vietnam signeda memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation. Accordingly, Sojitzwill continue helping Mavin connect with big clients in the world.-VNA
