Vietnam drops four places to 113th in latest FIFA rankings

The ranking decline came as a result of Vietnam’s 0-4 loss to hosts Malaysia in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnamese men's national football team have dropped four places to 113th in the latest FIFA rankings announced on July 10, according to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

This result accurately reflects the reality following Vietnam’s 0-4 loss to hosts Malaysia in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. The defeat cost Vietnam 13.91 ranking points, while Malaysia gained 14.91 points and climbed six places to 125th globally.

In Southeast Asia, Thailand remains the highest-ranked despite a 1-3 loss to Turkmenistan in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, causing the team to lose 12.24 points, dropping three places to 102nd in the July rankings.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's 1-0 victory over China in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers earned them 11.63 points, narrowing the gap with Vietnam to five places at 118th.

Japan leads Asia’s rankings at 17th globally, followed by Iran (20th), the Republic of Korea (23rd), Australia (24th), and Qatar (53rd).

According to FIFA statistics, since the April 2025 rankings, over 200 official matches among national teams have been played worldwide, leading to significant changes in placements. Argentina retains the global top spot, followed by Spain, France, the UK, and Brazil.
