Law-makers of Vietnam and Cuba shared legislative experience at a recent conference held during a visit of a Vietnamese National Assembly delegation to the Caribbean island from March 13-19.

Havana (VNA) – Law-makers of Vietnam and Cuba shared legislative experienceat a recent conference held during a visit of a Vietnamese National Assemblydelegation to the Caribbean island from March 13-19.

At the conference,chaired by Chairman of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez, bothsides delved deeply into such subjects as the organisation and performance ofthe State apparatus including the legislature, the relationship between the legislativebody and voters, the organisation of people’s councils and provincial-level NAdeputy delegations, and the link between the Party and the NA.

They alsodiscussed each side’s strengths and lessons in national reform and developmentas well as measures to boost the NA’s role and performance.

Concludingthe function, the Cuban NA Chairman spoke highly of Vietnam’s experience inoverhauling the State apparatus, particularly the organisation and operation ofthe NA in making laws and monitoring the government’s work.

Theseexperiences are useful to Cuba during its process to update economic growthmodel and shake up State agencies, he added.

He calledfor more information and experience exchange as well as joint studies between thecountries’ parliaments, saying that those practical activities will contributeto the comprehensive cooperation and solidarity between the two countries.

Participatingdelegates from the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) included Head of the NA Ombudsman Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai and Secretary of the NA ChairwomanLe Minh Thong.

While inCuba, the Vietnamese delegation, led by member of the NA Standing Committee andHead of the NA Committee for Deputy Affairs Tran Van Tuy, is scheduled to visitMayabeque and Matanzas provinces to study the performance of the local people’scouncils and social-economic situation.-VNA
